PRICE, a play by Dr PUVA ARU Directed by G SELVA Choreography by KALAI for Melbourne Midsumma Festival 2005, 27 Jan - 30 Jan 2005 @ the Arts Centre, BlackBox A Captivating & Sexily Hilarious Indian Drag Performer's Story with Bollywood Dance There is always a price to pay for every decision we make in life. PRICE is about an Indian gay drag queen living in a conservative Asian society who finds himself in a fix when he has to reveal his sexual identity to both the society and his mother. He discovered he was free to be himself when he was studying in Australia but once he returned home, his wings were clipped and he couldn’t keep his desire to be gay or to drag under wraps for long. Controversial issues affecting minorities within a minority are explored in greater detail as to how the gay community is looked upon by the Asian community in this time and age. This play had been staged two years ago in Singapore under RA rating and received good reviews in local press. As this play showcases an alternative insight into Asian values on representational issues that are real and current, we trust that the audience will have more than just an entertaining time.
